Nutrition screening with the MUAC z-score tape

We were delighted to welcome Elissa Koc Maurer from Abbott to Harris City Academy Crystal Palace to observe our Academy football training in partnership with the Real Madrid Foundation. Our partnership gives more young people access to regular football training whilst supporting them on their education journey. Along with our co-founder James Fotheringham and Maxim Cranmer-Brown from London Marathon Events, the goal of the visit was to give our young people the chance to learn about healthy eating and how we look for malnutrition using upper arm measurements. For the second phase of our partnership with Real Madrid and Abbott, we’re integrating nutrition screening with the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) z-score tape to help with the early identification of malnutrition. Much like height and weight measures, MUAC can indicate whether a child is in a normal nutritional range for their age.We will continue to measure throughout this season and use the data to reinforce good healthy habits with our young people.
