The Kinetic Foundation visits Deutsche Bank
On Wednesday 18th February 2015, the Kinetic Foundation took the Kick Off participants to Deutsche Bank as part of the SportEducate project. As you may be aware, Sported have funded the Kinetic Foundation to run a project that looks to support young people into long term employment. The aim of this project is to help 15/ 16 year olds who are currently studying for their GCSEs progress into further education or employment. We use this strategy as a preventative measure against young people becoming NEET.We were greeted at 12pm by Jonathan Jayarajan, Deputy Head of EMEA Equity Research, and were led to the board room where a delicious spread was laid out for us. Jonathan gave the boys an outline of his education and career pathway demonstrating the hard work and dedication required to get to where you want to go. This was followed by Deutsche Bank graduates sharing their stories of how they have come to be employees at the bank, highlighting the various routes a young person can go to get into employment. The boys were then taken down in groups to the trade floor to meet various employees who work in equity and bonds. They were informed of what that person’s job role includes and what trading involves. Anyone new to that environment would be overwhelmed by the amount of information that is popping up on screens all around the room; at one particular desk, 10 screens were linked up to one computer. The overall message that was learned from the trade floor experience was, even with all this extravagant technology on show, the traders are essentially buying stocks at one price and selling them for another – as simple as that! After an hour of learning their trade, we were taken back upstairs and given a short presentation on qualities looked at when going into paid employment. The young people were then lucky enough to be greeted by the Chief Executive Officer of the UK branch of Deutsche Bank, Colin Grassie. He was kind enough to share his words of wisdom with the group and give some of helpful life tips for everyone in the room. Colin then agreed to come and watch the boys play in one of their next upcoming fixtures and donated kindly £500 to the Foundation.Overall, the Kinetic Foundation had a brilliant day at Deutsche Bank. We would like to thank Julian Yorke from Sported, who helped organise the day, Jonathan Jayarajan Deputy Head of EMEA Equity Research, Colin Grassie, UK CEO Deutsche Bank and all the traders we met on the trade floor throughout the day. We hope to see you all again soon.
